Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has described Washington’s latest commitment to Kyiv as “historic,” after the United States pledged long-term security guarantees should peace negotiations with Russia eventually take place.
Speaking in front of the Ukrainian flag, Zelensky said the agreement represents a major shift in Ukraine’s partnership with the U.S., ensuring that Kyiv will not be left vulnerable once the war ends.
“This is more than words — it is a foundation for Ukraine’s future security,” the president noted, emphasizing that the guarantees would help deter further aggression and support the rebuilding of his country.
The pledge underscores Washington’s ongoing backing of Ukraine, both militarily and politically, as the conflict with Russia grinds on. For Zelensky, the move marks a symbolic victory, bolstering his message to Ukrainians that Western allies remain firmly committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty.
