Low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines has expanded its international network with the launch of a new nonstop Caribbean route, giving travelers a direct and affordable option to reach a popular vacation destination.
The airline’s new service connects Wilmington International Airport in North Carolina with Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, marking a major milestone as the airport’s first-ever international nonstop flight. The route is designed to serve leisure travelers seeking convenient access to the Caribbean without the need for connecting flights.
Flights on the new route will operate twice weekly, using Avelo’s Boeing 737 aircraft. The airline said the expansion reflects growing demand for affordable international travel from smaller U.S. cities.
Avelo executives highlighted that the new route supports tourism growth while providing customers with more choice and value. Local airport officials also welcomed the announcement, calling it a significant step forward in expanding regional air connectivity.
