A nationwide recall has been issued for multiple varieties of shredded and grated cheese after routine safety checks uncovered the risk of metal contamination in several batches. Consumers across the United States are being urged to inspect their refrigerators and avoid using the affected products until further notice.

The recall covers a wide range of shredded cheeses, including mozzarella, cheddar blends, taco mixes, and parmesan-style varieties sold under several popular retail and store brands. Officials say the issue was detected during internal quality inspections, which revealed that small metal fragments may have entered the production line.

While no injuries have been reported so far, food-safety regulators warn that consuming products contaminated with metal pieces could lead to mouth injuries, internal cuts, or digestive complications. Because of the potential risk, the recall has been classified as a Class II health alert, meaning the products could cause temporary or medically treatable health issues.

Retailers have already started removing the cheeses from shelves, and customers who purchased the recalled items are encouraged to throw them away or return them for a refund. Authorities are also advising families to be extra cautious, especially households with children or elderly individuals who may be more vulnerable.

The manufacturer has apologized for the disruption and says it is working to identify the source of the contamination while strengthening safety protocols to prevent future incidents.

As holiday cooking ramps up — a time when shredded cheese is used heavily in home kitchens — officials are urging everyone to double-check any cheese products purchased in recent weeks.
